Gan-Or Ziv

Dr. Ziv Gan-Or, MD-PhD, is an Associate Professor at The Neuro (Montreal Neurological Institute-Hospital), where he serves as the Co-Director of the Clinical Research Unit which runs al the clinical trials at The Neuro. He also serves as the Director of the Neurodegenerative Disorders Research Group at The Neuro and is affiliated with the departments of Neurology and Human Genetics at McGill University. Dr. Gan-Or completed the MD-PhD program at Tel Aviv University, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship in Human Genetics in McGill University. He leads the Neurogenomics and Precision Medicine (NAP-Med) lab, which is focused on identifying and characterizing genetic causes and modifiers of various neurological disorders, and the people who carry these genetic factors, towards precision medicine. His research nominated multiple genes, many of which belong to the lysosomal glycosphingolipid metabolism pathway, involved in Parkinson’s disease and similar disorders. Using advanced computational and genetic methods such as whole-genome and whole-exome sequencing, targeted next generation sequencing, genome-wide association studies, RNA sequencing and more, the NAP-Med lab aims to understand the genetic basis of diseases such as Parkinson’s disease, REM sleep behavior disorder, restless legs syndrome, dementia with Lewy-bodies, multiple system atrophy, hereditary spastic paraplegia and others.
