Alla Guekht is Professor of Neurology of the Russian National Research Medical University and Director of the Moscow Research and Clinical Center for Neuropsychiatry.
She obtained her M.D. degree and completed residency in neurology at the 2nd Moscow Medical Institute, then – several internship/fellowship programs in Germany and USA.
Her main research interests are focused on epilepsy (epilepsy after stroke and traumatic brain injury, somatic and psychiatric co-morbidities in epilepsy, social issues), cerebrovascular diseases (post-stroke cognitive impairment and recovery after stroke), as well as neuropsychiatry (depression and anxiety). She is the author of more than 200 Pubmed-listed publications, including over 110 papers in the international peer-reviewed journal and chapters in the international textbooks. She is the mentor to many young neurologists and epileptologists with over 25 completed PhD and 4 doctoral dissertations. She served in the Editorial Boards of Epilepsia, Epileptic Disorders; at present – in the Editorial Boards of the European Journal of Neurology, Neurological Sciences (associate editor), Journal of Neurological Sciences, Acta Neurologica Scandinavica, European Journal of stroke, Korsakov Journal of Neurology and Psychiatry. She is an invited speaker, member of the International Organizing / Scientific Committees of many international congresses and conferences in neurology and epilepsy and has organized numerous courses..
She is the Vice-President of the International League against Epilepsy (ILAE), Elected Trustee of the World Federation of Neurology (WFN), Secretary-General of the National Society of Neurologists. Professor Guekht has been extensively involved in the WHO activities in neurology and mental health for over 25 years. In the recent years she contributed substantially to the landmark World Health Assembly Resolutions on epilepsy and other Neurological disorders. She was the member of the Steering committee, co-editor and co-author of the WHO-ILAE-IBE Global Report on epilepsy. She is very much involved in Neurology and COVID-19 WHO Forum, serving as a co-chair of the Follow up and long-term impact working group.
She received the Bruce S. Schoenberg International Award and lecture in Neuroepidemiology (American Academy of Neurology), the European Educational Award on Epileptology, the Ambassador for Epilepsy Award from the ILAE and IBE, as well as many prestigious National Awards.
